How can Nigerian students get the GitHub Student Developer Pack?

GOSPELTRADER Research Desk · 4 October 2026 · 4 min read

Learn how to apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack in Nigeria, prove your student status and avoid common application mistakes.

You can get the GitHub Student Developer Pack in Nigeria by creating a personal GitHub account and applying through GitHub Education with proof that you are currently a student. You must be at least 13 and enrolled in a qualifying educational programme; approval gives you access to student offers, each with its own conditions.

1. Check whether you qualify

The GitHub Student Developer Pack provides access to developer tools, learning resources and other partner offers. You do not need to study computer science, but you must meet GitHub Education’s student eligibility requirements.

You can apply from Nigeria. Your approval depends on your student status and the evidence you submit, not simply on having a Nigerian university email address.

  • • You must be at least 13 years old.
  • • You must currently be enrolled in a degree- or diploma-granting course, such as at a secondary school, college, polytechnic or university.
  • • You need a personal GitHub account.
  • • You need a verifiable school-issued email address or documents that demonstrate your current student status.

2. Prepare your account and student evidence

Create your account at github.com if you do not already have one. Use your own account rather than sharing a login with classmates, and ensure your profile name matches the name on your student evidence.

If your institution gives you a student email address, add and verify it in your GitHub account settings. If it does not, you can still apply using suitable evidence of enrolment.

  • • Prepare a school ID showing a current enrolment date, a current class timetable, a transcript or an enrolment letter.
  • • Choose evidence that clearly shows your name, your institution and a date demonstrating current enrolment.
  • • Make sure any photograph or scan is readable and includes the relevant document details.
  • • If your ID has no date, prepare another document that establishes your current student status.
  • • Never alter dates, borrow another student’s ID or submit fabricated evidence.

3. Apply through GitHub Education

Visit github.com/education/students while signed in, then follow the application option for student benefits. GitHub may update the interface, so follow the current on-screen instructions rather than relying on an old tutorial.

Enter your institution’s details, select your school email address if available and provide any requested evidence. If the application asks for location access or a live photograph of your documents, follow those verification instructions.

  • • Check that you have selected the correct institution.
  • • Explain how you intend to use GitHub if the form asks.
  • • Review your details before submitting.
  • • Check your account and email for the decision or requests for additional information.

4. Fix common verification problems

If your application is rejected, read the reason before applying again. An undated ID, an unreadable image or a mismatch between your account name and supporting documents can make student verification difficult.

Do not assume that a school email address alone guarantees approval. GitHub may require additional evidence, particularly when the address does not clearly establish that you are currently enrolled.

  • • Replace blurry images with clear photographs taken in good lighting.
  • • Use current evidence rather than an old admission letter that does not confirm ongoing enrolment.
  • • Correct genuine name inconsistencies in your account details.
  • • If location verification fails, check browser permissions and disable a VPN that misrepresents your location.
  • • Use GitHub Education’s official support resources if you cannot resolve the stated problem.

5. Activate offers carefully after approval

After approval, visit education.github.com/pack to see the available offers. Your student verification does not automatically activate every service: you may need to create a separate account with each provider and redeem its offer.

Offers, availability and redemption requirements can change. Check each provider’s terms, including whether you can redeem the offer in Nigeria, before building a project around it.

  • • Check whether an offer has an expiry date, usage limit or first-time-customer restriction.
  • • Do not assume every offer lasts for your entire degree.
  • • If a provider requests payment details, check for automatic renewal or charges beyond free usage limits.
  • • Set billing alerts where available before using cloud services.
  • • Reverify your student status when GitHub requires it; partner offers may have separate renewal rules.
  • • Never pay someone to sell you an approved student account or activate benefits using false documents.

Frequently asked questions

Can you get the GitHub Student Developer Pack without a school email? Yes. You can apply with documents proving your current enrolment if you do not have a school-issued email address. GitHub decides whether your evidence is sufficient, so provide a clear document showing your name, institution and current enrolment date.

Is the GitHub Student Developer Pack completely free in Nigeria? Applying for the pack does not require a payment to GitHub. However, individual offers may provide limited credits, trials or discounts rather than unlimited free access, and some providers may charge you if you exceed their limits or continue after an offer expires.

How long does GitHub student verification take? Verification time varies, and you should not rely on a guaranteed approval deadline. Check your application status and email for updates, and respond if GitHub requests clearer or additional evidence.
