Measuring content performance with GA4: the five reports that matter

GOSPELTRADER Content Engineering · 28 September 2026 · 6 min read

Quick answer

Track landing pages by sessions and engagement rate, traffic source per page, average engagement time, scroll or read-depth events, and key events (enquiries, sign-ups) attributed to each page. Together they show which content attracts, holds and converts.

Pageviews tell you something was opened. They do not tell you whether it was read or whether it led anywhere. GA4 can answer both if you look at the right views.

The five reports

  • • Landing page report: which articles start sessions, with engagement rate beside them.
  • • Session source by landing page: search, social or referral — each needs a different content approach.
  • • Average engagement time: separates skimmed pages from read ones.
  • • Custom read-depth events: a 75% scroll event marks a genuinely read article.
  • • Key events by landing page: which articles lead to contact forms, downloads or sign-ups.

Review monthly, not daily

Content compounds slowly. A monthly review with the same five views gives stable trends; daily checks mostly show noise.
